Cake Stands

These are the cake stands I currently own. I'm still adding to my collection despite my lack of storage. :)  More to come in the future.

I could've told you Vincent, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.

Cake made for a charity event benefiting a friend of a friend. This was the Event that I donated a cake to.

I was told that Emme is an artsy person and I decided that I was going to use Van Gogh as the theme of my cake.
One of my favorite paintings of his is Starry Starry Night.

I did my best to imitate Van Gogh with the color layering and brush strokes. Have you ever seen a real Van Gogh close up and in person... His paintings are amazing. The cake was two layers of my "special chocolate" with milk chocolate ganache filling. Covered with vanilla frosting in a heavy handed artistic manner.

What is in a Name?

Back in May of 2013 I decided that If I was going all the way with this cake thing then I needed something better for a name than "I Make Cakes". Not that that was bad... but I wanted to make a business card, and labels for cake boxes. So as we all do now days, I turned to Facebook for ideas and held a contest, the winner receiving a free cake.

Some of the great suggestions I got:

Cranky Cakes
Custom Cakes
Coo-Coo Cakes
Creative Cakes
Crazy Cakes
Caked
Get Caked
Cake or Death

In the end the name that was chosen was DeLizious Cakes. The name suggestion came from my cousin-in-law Rodd.

Do you see how great that is? It has my name in it. I needed a logo though, and the above picture was too much and I needed simpler for my tastes. After some trial and error I finally decided on the current logo.

I love it, and think that the simpleness of it makes a statement. And thus the current incarnation of my caking was created.
Rodd did win a cake. It happened to he his birthday so I got his preference of theme, and went with it. The cake turned out pretty simple, but I really like them that way.

I completed the following cake on May 17, 2013.

I sadly forget what flavor the cake itself was. I'm thinking that it was chocolate. The theme of choice was Harry Potter. I decided to go with the Gryffindor Quidditch theme.

It turned out great, and I'm pretty sure Harry would have approved.

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!

Wow... I've fallen almost a year behind in my blogging adventures in cake making. Its not that I haven't made any cakes I just haven't made time for blogging. I'm sorry. I hope you can forgive me.

Lets go back to February 2013 where I made 2 cakes in the same weekend... That's not really a smart idea when all there is to decorate and manage is me, but somehow I got through it and turned out this fantastic little Mickey Mouse for one of my best friends and her boyfriend's granddaughter.

I'm not to sure, but I believe that the cake was just your basic chocolate flavor.

I really liked this with only the nose and eyes. It reminded me of old Disney classics.

However it was not what was ordered. So I continued on.
